From February 24, 2022, to April 3, 2024, there were 1030 air raid alarms in Kyiv — 1030 times the сritical notification with red circle 🔴 appeared on smartphone screens — 1030 times the state of alarm arrived.

Some alarms seemed to have barely noticeable impact on us. Some alarms seemed to have a sharp and deep impact on us. But they did have an impact. All of them did.
What would these 1030 alarms look like if they could be visualized?

I took a canvas 1.9 x 1.9 meters. I took a sponge 1.5 meters in diameter. I took a lot of paint. I made an imprint. Another one. Another one. Another one. I did this 1030 times.

From February 24, 2022, to April 3, 2024, there were 1030 air raid alarms in Kyiv. And 1030 air raid all-clears.

1030 times a сritical notification with a green circle 🟢 appeared on smartphone screens.

1030 times a state of relief arrived.

In this piece, I continued to explore the feeling of anxiety. I realized how completely it fills everything it touches. Even the feeling of relief, when you're anxious, is tinged with anxiety.

So, this is how these 1030 reliefs look after working through "1030 Alarms".

A person is like a sponge. They absorb everything they can. Sadness, anger, joy, fear, shame, grief. They absorb and hardly ever release anything. They hold it inside, letting it mold, letting it sour. They keep absorbing until, at some point, they become oversaturated. Until everything inside them dries up and hardens. Until it turns to stone. And anything that turns to stone, that is hard both outside and inside, becomes brittle. Sooner or later, it will crumble, crack, and fall apart.

"Absorption of Green" illustrates the persistence of anxiety and its impact on everything it touches. It is an attempt to find calm in endless moments of anxiety. It should set your mind at rest, but it doesn’t. Can joy be truly joyful when you’re anxious? Can calm truly be calming?

This is a large-scale installation born from the atmosphere of uncertainty that has gripped Ukrainians since the full-scale invasion in December 2022. Inspired by the idea that the scariest thing is a closed door, the work recreates this experience for the viewer.

Placed in a forest, field, park, or square, the installation invites visitors inside. In complete darkness, with only a heavy ring of keys, they must feel their way through a corridor and find the right key to open the first door—then six more. Step by step, fear and tension accompany them. But the journey always ends with an exit, echoing the resilience of those who live with uncertainty every day.
